Each rising edge of this signal will cause one step or microstep to be taken. This normally high input signal alllegro minimize power consumption by disabling internal circuitry and the output drivers when pulled low.

Allegro MicroSystems – A Microstepping Driver with Translator
Connect the negative side of your power supply, as well as from any other boards you are using to drive the Easy Driver to one or more of the GND pins. Internal circuit protection includes thermal shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage lockout UVLO and crossover-current protection.

A and B are the two coils of the motor, and can swap the two wires for a given coil it will just reverse the direction of the 396. We default it to slow decay mode, but you can override with your own voltage on this pin.
These digital inputs control the microstepping mode. We’ll notify you when allfgro are updates to this product. By simply inputting one pulse on the STEP input the motor will take one step full, half, quarter, or eighth depending on two logic inputs.

This current-decay control scheme results in reduced audible motor noise, increased step accuracy, and reduced power dissipation. They are all connected together inside the board.
