It does not take long schhlink the other two men to show up. I liked the subject of this book, but I thought it was not well-written enough as to express strongly the dilemmas that the author wanted to express. It’s better than The Reader. His rhetorical questions are not deduced easily and his story is a bit unfocused. The story is told more convincingly. Great premise but didn’t quite work. berngard
Even though he is aware of a crucial piece of information that could clear her name in a war crimes trial, he cannot allow himself to defend her. For somebody, like myself, who grew up during those heady days of the sixties and seventies in Germany, Schlink’s story touches on many truths and suggests realities that I am familiar with.

I don’t know if the problem is in the translation, but in parts of the book it’s hard to figure who’s doing the talking. We shall read about the inner life of each of them…. Very hard questions in today’s society. I was curious, I had questions and nothing was answered.
