Prospect of Milicia excelsa Welw. Berg for Multi- Tree Species Agroforestry. Directory of Open Access Journals Sweden. Full Text Available Background and Purpose: The population of most of our economically indigenous tree species in Nigeria is declining. Human activities and agricultural practices have been the ultimate contributors to this decrease.
In order to ameliorate the conflict between agriculture and forestry, agroforestry was introduced. However, most of the practiced agroforestry is based on single tree species. Agroforestry practiced using single tree species have been reported to be ecologically staggered and therefore it is pertinent that phytosociology of trees with agroforestry potential is studied in order to improve the sustainability of human livelihood.
The data were collected on Milicia excelsa Welw. Berg by enumerating the tree species and also by identifying and enumerating the tree species associated with the subject tree Milicia excelsa. Statistical analysis was done using percentages, Chi-square and charts. A total of 49 individual Milicia excelsa were encountered in the study area. The results show 31 simariubaceae tree species associated with Milicia excelsa.
Of all the associates Azadirachta indica A. The sex ratio of Milicia excelsa was discovered to be approximately 1: Based on the obtained results of this research it may be concluded that Milicia excelsa has the prospect of being used in agroforestry in multi- tree species systems.
Fruits are winged, wings many-nerved. Wood is used in making match sticks.

Demography of the Brazil nut tree Bertholletia excelsa in the Bolivian Amazon: A demographic study was carried out on Bertholletia excelsathe Brazil nut treein two primary forest sites in Northern Bolivia where Brazil nuts have been harvested for several decades. To accurately estimate the draksi diversity and aktjf structure for improved conservation planning of Milicia excelsa treeindividuals from twelve population samples covering the species’ range in Benin were surveyed at seven specific micro satellite DNA loci.
All loci were variable, with the mean number of alleles per locus ranging from 5. Moderate but statistically significant genetic differentiation was found among populations considering both FST 0. All of the populations showed heterozygosity deficits in test of Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium and significantly positive FIS values simaroubaceaee to inbreeding occurring in the species.

Bayesian analysis of population structure showed division of the genetic variation into four clusters revealing the existence of heterogeneity in population genetic structure. Altogether, these results indicate that genetic variation in Milicia excelsa is geographically structured.
Information aktjf from this study also emphasized the need for in situ conservation of the relict populations and aktiif of gene flow corridors through agroforestry systems for interconnecting these remnant populations.
The native natural strands of this tree are fast disappearing due to over exploitation. This has led to inclusion of this plant in the list of endangered species. Extracts of tender vegetative regions of this plant are used as remedy for diarrhoea, dysentery, fever and toothache. The aqueous infusion of the wood is believed to The tree is scared with noval antidiabetic properties.
Therefore, the propagation of this tree by tissue culture techniques is an urgent need and well justified. Nodal segments containing axillary bud from 10 years old tree of P. The best shoot proliferation was obtained with Multiplication of in vitro shoots were achieved on MS Medium supplemented with Kn 9.
Half strength MS fraksk supplemented with 4. Rfaksi vitro regenerated plantlets with well developed roots were successfully hardened in a greenhouse. Full Text Available Positive and negative facilitative and competitive interactions of plants are important issues in autecology and can be evaluated by the spatial pattern analysis in plant ecosystems.
This study investigates the intraspecific interactions of Indian rosewood Dalbergia sissoo Roxb. Structurally different summary statistics nearest neighbour distribution function D r, K2-index K2 r, pair correlation function g r, and O-ring O r were also implemented to analyze the spatial pattern of the trees.
The results of D r and K2 r showed that the maximum distance to nearest tree was 12 m and density was decreased to this scale. The results of g r and O r also revealed the significant aggregation of Indian rosewood trees at scales of 1.
In general, it was concluded that Indian rosewood trees had positive intraspecific interactions in Indian rosewood Reserve of Khuzestan province and their aggregation showed their facilitative effects on one another.
