The first part analyzes the properties and rules of the graphic system breaking down the variants and invariants, the plane and the “retinal variables”, and combines these and more into rules for construction and legibility.

Which is good to see. This is no indictment of the arts, just a pragmatic concern about the future citizens and voters in these countries.

The Geographical JournalVol. Amazon Inspire Digital Educational Resources. A Handbook for Data Driven Design. Both use different examples, with Bertin making his own and Tufte drawing from favorably considered precedents. But other than beftin, it’s a brilliant book that I recommend to everyone interested in graphics and visualization.
